It is powered by an AC power source, but it does include a backup battery just in case your power goes out. The Guardian IQ2 Panel includes a 5 mega-pixel front facing camera that can take snap shots of when your system is being armed and disarmed. The Guardian IQ 2 panel includes Bluetooth disarming which means it will recognize when you are coming and leaving your home, and trigger your system accordingly. The Guardian IQ2 panel really stands out due to its built-in glass break sensor that will trigger your Guardian Protection security system when the sound of break glass is detected. Anytime your Guardian Protection system or devices are trigger the Guardian IQ2 Panel will sound its internal 110-decibel siren. The Guardian IQ2 Panel also includes a Z-Wave protocol that will allow you to expand it so that you can use home automation devices with it.

Brinks Control Panel

Brinks Home Security offers several different control panels, but today we will only be going over their most superior control panel called the Brinks Home Touch. The Brinks Home Touch panel is a completely wireless touchscreen control panel that comes with a 7-inch full color LCD capacitive glass multi-touch screen which sports 1280 x 800 resolution made by Qolsys. This control panel has built in 5MP fixed focus front facing camera that allows users to capture still images. It also has a slot for an SD card allowing users to store these images on an SD card. The Brinks Home Touch panel has a built in 85 decibel internal siren with a built-in backup battery for those times the power goes out. It is powered by an AC power source, and it works by connecting to your home’s WIFI network. The panel also has the ability to have a cellular chip installed that has LTE coverage which is always good if your power or internet is down. The Brinks Home Touch panel allows users to have 242 user codes. It also includes Smart Z-Wave technology that allows you to connect up 119 smart home devices. The Brinks Home Touch Panel includes smash and crash as well so even if your panel gets damaged during a home invasion it will still transmit a single.

Who wins?

Guardian’s and Brinks Home Security’s control panels have a lot of similarities. Both of their control panels are full colored touchscreen. They also both use cellular chips to transmit data and connect to your WIFI as a backup. Brinks unfortunately does not have a lot of transparency on their website about their control which leaves us guessing on what specific features their control panel has. Guardian offers you more information about their control panel, and they have a couple of different control panels for you to choose from, including the Qolsys panel which we use here at Link. For these reasons we are choosing Guardian as the winner for this category.

Guardian Equipment

Guardian Protection offers all of the basic equipment you could ever need to keep your home totally protected. They offered wireless and battery-operated sensors that have a long battery life. To keep the inside of your home safe Guardian Protection offers door/window, motion, and glass break sensors. All of these sensors are tamper-proof so you don’t have to worry about someone disabling them. They also offer a variety of external sirens including one that has a strobe light so you will be sure to hear when your Guardian Protection’s security system has been triggered. To quickly arm and disarm your system, Guardian protection offers a battery-operated key fob that has a built-in panic button. To keep your home safe from environmental dangers Guardian Protection offers smoke/heat and CO sensors. These sensors have audible alerts that will be triggered if dangerous rises in environmental factors such as heat, smoke, and CO gas are detected. Guardian Protection will send out one of their certified security technicians so you don’t have to worry about setting up the equipment yourself.

Additional Equipment

Guardian Protection’s Guardian IQ Panel is more than just a security hub, due to its Z-Wave protocol you can use a variety of other branded smart home devices with it. You can purchase some of the smart home automation equipment directly through Guardian Protection. Guardian Protection offers Kwikset smart locks that have an illuminated push-button keypad that you can create custom user codes. You will also be able to control on these locks while go including remotely locking and unlocking. If your home has garage doors you can remotely open and close them using the Linear Garage Door controller that is offered by Guardian Protection. You will also receive push notification anytime your garage doors have been opened or shut. To make your home greener, Guardian Protection offers Alarm.com smart thermostats. These thermostats work for the majority of HVAC heating and cooling systems. You will be able to remotely control your home’s temperature on the go through your Alarm.com Smart Thermostat. This is all the home automation that Guardian Protection is showing via their website, and you would need to call them for a more complete list.

Video Monitoring/Cameras

To provide your home with some video surveillance protection, Guardian Protection offers an indoor, outdoor, and a video doorbell camera. Their cameras are wireless and work by connecting to your home’s WIFI. Guardian Protection’s video cams can capture high quality video clips, have night vision technology, and 2-way audio. Brinks Equipment

Brinks Home Security offers a wide variety of sensors to protect the entryways of your home. They offer door/window sensors that are wireless, and they a range of 600 ft. and come with a replaceable lithium battery. Their door/window sensors are small in size which allow them to work with a variety of door/window frame styles. They also offer PRI motions sensors which can detect the heat of emissions of human signatures which allows these sensors to be pet immune for pets up to 40 lbs. Their motion sensors are powered by 2 AA batteries with a battery life for up to 3 to 5 years. Brinks offers glass break sensors that are wireless and battery operated. These sensors will listen for the sound of glass break, and if it is heard these sensors will trigger your system.

Brinks also offers wireless and battery-operated smoke sensors that will watch over your home for rises in smoke. They also have a different kind of smoke sensor that can listen for the sounds of your already existing smoke sensors, and if these sounds are hear they will trigger your system. They next type of environmental safety sensor that is offered by Brinks is their CO detector. Their CO detector is also wireless and battery-operated. Brinks offers a wireless and battery-operated flood sensor that will detect the smallest leaks. The last type of basic equipment that is offered by Brinks is their key chain remote. It has a 4-button push button design that also includes a panic button. Brinks offers DIY type of installation (do it yourself), but they include everything you need for a fast and easy installation. They also offer professional installation so you can have one of their technicians come out and setup everything for you.

Additional Equipment

Brinks Home Security has even more additional equipment than ADT. Brinks also offers Kwikset automated door locks. Brinks has several different models of Kwikset locks they offer, but they all work pretty much the same. You will able to remotely lock and unlock your Kwikset locks on the go as well as set custom users codes. Brinks offers a few different smart thermostats, and they offer Alarm.com smart thermostats. The smart thermostats they offer work for most HVAC heating and cooling systems. You will be able to customize the temperature of your home remotely, and set custom timers for when your heating and cooling system comes on and goes off. Brinks has a wide variety of smart plugs and switches as well. You will able to control lights along with small appliances remotely while on the go.

Video Surveillance

When it comes to video surveillance equipment Brinks offers indoor, outdoor, and the SkyBell Slim Line Video Doorbell Camera. The cameras that are offered by Brinks have crystal clear video resolution, and the SkyBell Slim Line Video Doorbell also includes a 2-way audio feature. Who wins?

Guardian Protection and Brinks both have a really nice selection of basic equipment for you to choose from. We really like that Guardian offers a flood sensor which can be really valuable to home owners due to the amount of damage a flood can cause. We also like that Guardian Protection’s strobe external siren. Because Guardian Protection has a bit larger selection of basic equipment than that of Brinks, we are giving them the win for this category.

Guardian Protection also offers a nice selection of add-on equipment for you to choose from so that you can really expand your system. We really like the fact that they allows to purchase a lot of other branded home automation equipment directly through them. We really love the fact that Guardian Protection uses Alarm.com thermostats due to all the features it includes. This was a harder category for us to call, but are going to give the win to Guardian Protection due to them offering Alarm.com thermostats.

Guardian vs Brinks App

Guardian Protection and Brinks both offer self, professional, and video monitoring services. Their self-monitoring services are both done through Alarm.com. This means you will have a ton of remote monitoring features you can use with your equipment and system. You can customize all devices connected to your system, stream live and recorded video, get push notifications for events, remotely arm and disarm your system plus much much more all through the app while on the go. Alarm.com also allows for geo-fencing service which is a feature that will automatically turn on/off your system, devices, cameras, etc. when leaving and entering the house. Their professional monitoring services work the same where you have a professional monitoring station watching over your home 24/7.

Guardian Protection and Brinks offer great security systems. We like the colored touchscreen control panels offered by Guardian Protection (here at Link we use the same ones). Guardian has a ton of equipment that you can use with their system, and they have discounted contract based pricing. Brinks has a more limited range of equipment, but not by that much. Because Guardian has a bigger selection of equipment with lower upfront pricing we are choosing them as our overall winner.
