If your Vivint security system or connected devices are triggered, the Vivint Smart Hub will sound its internal built-in siren. The Vivint Smart Hub is tampering proof meaning it will still transmit a signal if damaged. The Vivint Smart Hub includes a Z-Wave protocol that will allow you to expand your Vivint Smart Hub to include some home automation devices.

Alder Security Control Panel

Alder Security has a modern-day design touchscreen control panel. The Alder Security control panel is very thin making it easy to place. Alder Security’s touchscreen control panel sports a 7-inch full colored display. Alder Security control panel’s touchscreen displays your current time and temperature, system status, and cellular chip signal strength. Just like most of the other security control panels out on the market, Alder Security’s control panel is wireless and cellular. It is powered by an AC power source so you will want to make sure you have one nearby. All devices that you want to add to your control panel can be added through the touchscreen as well as being able to create custom user codes for your Alder Security control panel. You can easily arm and disarm your system with the quick touch on your Alder Security’s touchscreen. Who wins?

Vivint and Alder Security both offer touchscreen control panels that connect all your devices to one place. Both of their control panels are wireless and cellular and come with a backup battery. However, Vivint’s Smart Hub has a much nicer design with more features. For these reasons we are making Vivint the winner for this category.

For the garage doors of your home, you can use Vivint’s tilt sensor to let you know when your garage doors have been open or shut. For another way to quickly arm and disarm your Vivint security system you can use their keychain remote. Their keychain remote has a push-button design, and it will allow you to arm and disarm your system with a push of a button. To protect your home from environmental dangers such smoke, CO gas, and floods, Vivint offers a sensor for each one of these environmental factors. If dangerous rises occur in smoke, CO, or water Vivint’s environmental safety sensors will make an audible alert while triggering your system and sending you an instant notification. There is no reason for you to have to purchase a separate home automation hub when you have a Vivint Smart Hub. The Vivint Smart Hub allows you to use smart home devices with your system. You can use smart locks that allow you the ability to remotely unlock and lock your doors while on the go. Vivint offers smart locks that have a push button design and allow you to create custom user codes. If you are looking for a way to save yourself some money on your home’s energy costs you can purchase smart thermostats and smart bulbs through Vivint. Vivint offers smart thermostats that can automatically adjust to your preferred home’s temperature, and you can remotely can control their smart thermostats on the go. The smart bulbs from Vivint can have custom timers set for when they come on and go off which can help cut down on your home’s energy consumption per month. You will also be able to remotely turn on and off your smart bulbs through the Vivint app. If you are looking to do more with your home’s garage doors than monitoring them with a Vivint tilt sensor, you can purchase a garage door controller through Vivint that will allow you to be able to open and shut your garage doors on the go. You will also receive push notifications anytime your garage doors have been opened or shut.

Video Monitoring/Cameras

To keep a closer eye on the inside and outside of your home Vivint offers a variety of video cams. They offer indoor, outdoor, and video doorbell cameras. Their video cams are wireless and work by being connected to an AC power source with the exception of their video doorbell which is powered by your existing doorbell wiring. Their cameras can capture video in HD, and they include night vision, motion sensors, and 2-way audio.

Alder Security Equipment

Alder Security offers some really great basic equipment that works well with their touchscreen control panel. They offer wireless and battery-operated door/windows sensors that will provide protection for the door/windows in your home. Alder Security has motion sensors that can detect motion in larger rooms that are wireless and battery-operated. To quickly arm and disarm your system Alder Security offers key fobs that are push button and battery-operated. To protect your home from the dangerous of smoke and fire, Alder security offers their wireless and battery-operated smoke detectors. Alder Security’s smoke detectors will monitor for smoke, and if smoke is detected it will make an audible alert and trigger your system. The last basic sensor that is offered is Alder Security’s flood sensor. Alder Security’s flood sensor is wireless sensor that will detect leaks and rises in water. If a leak or rise in water is detected, the Alder Security flood sensor will trigger your Alder Security system while sending you an instant alert. All equipment offered by Alder Security is a DYI (do it yourself) type of install which means you will need to setup all the equipment yourself, but Alder Security does include a step by step setup guide.

Home Automation

Alder Security doesn’t list any home automation equipment, but they do offer a medical alert system. Their medical alert system works with their medical pendent. Their medical pendent is battery-operated and has a push-button design, and it is made from material that allows its push-button to be easily pushed during an emergency. When the emergency button has been pushed, emergencies services will know that help is needed.

Monitoring/Cameras

Alder Security does offer a few different types of video surveillance cameras. Alder security offers the Kami Outdoor camera which is wireless camera that works by connect to your home’s WIFI. It has 140-degree wide viewing angle, and it can capture video is 1080P. The Kami Outdoor has 2-way audio, night vision, and smart motion detecting technology.

Alder Security offers the YI Indoor Camera to provide some video surveillance protection for the inside of your home. The YI Indoor Camera is wireless, and it is powered by an AC power source. The YI Indoor Camera can capture and stream video 1080p HD within its 111-degree field of view. The YI Indoor Camera includes motion sensing technology, baby cry detection, IR night vision, and 2-way audio.

The last video surveillance camera offered by Alder Security is the Arlo Doorbell. The Arlo Doorbell is powered by rechargeable batteries so you don’t have to worry about having an existing doorbell setup for it to work. It can capture and stream crystal clear video clips, and it with its 2-way audio feature you can directly communicate with whomever is around your Arlo Doorbell. The Arlo Doorbell also includes night vision and motion sensors that will trigger it to send you an instant alert and start to record.

Who wins?

Vivint and Alder Security both offered wireless and battery-operated intrusion and environmental safety sensors. We really like that Vivint also offers a tilt sensor due to its ability to let you know when your garage doors have been opened and shut. Unfortunately, Alder Security doesn’t offer this type of sensor, and they are even lacking a glass break sensor for their system. Because Vivint has more basic equipment than Alder Security, we are giving them the win for this category.

It isn’t a big competition between Vivint and Alder Security when it comes to this particular category. Unfortunately, Alder Security doesn’t really offer any home automation equipment while Vivint has plenty of home automation devices for you to choose from. However, Alder Security does have some really nice video surveillance cameras, and they are offering some of the tops brands of home security cameras that are currently out on the market. Due to Vivint offering home automation equipment and video surveillance cameras, we are making them the winner for this category.

Vivint Smart Home vs Alder Security App

Vivint and Alder Security offer professional, self, and video monitoring services. Their self-monitoring services are done through their apps, and they are free to download and work for Apple and Android devices. Vivint’s self-monitoring services offer more features including remote control of home automation devices. Both of their apps will allow you remote control of your system which includes remote arming and disarming, streaming live video, and receiving push notifications for events. Vivint’s and Alder Security’s professional monitoring services work the same in which you have a 24/7 professional monitoring station watching over your home for security and environmental safety events.

Vivint’s and Alder Security’s month to month monitoring costs around the same, but you will be getting more features with your Vivint monitoring services. There are no upfront costs for equipment with either of these companies as long as you go with their standard 3-year contract.

Vivint and Alder Security offer really nice security systems that use full colored touchscreen control panels to connect all your devices. Alder Security’s selection of video cams is superb, and their system is really easy to setup by yourself. Vivint’s Smart Hub is packed full of features, and they have a ton of home automation equipment for you to choose from.
