ADT Control Panel

ADT doesn’t just have one control panel for you to choose from, they instead offer two control panels. They have a basic panel that is simplistic in design and function, and it works by connecting directly to a landline. It is powered by being directly wired into your home’s power source. All of features for this basic panel are controlled through a separate push-button keypad or through the ADT app.

The next control panel offered by ADT is their digital keypad. ADT’s digital keypad has a full colored touchscreen. The touchscreen for ADT’s digital keypad displays time, temperature, and your system’s status. ADT’s digital keypad can be wall mounted or you can place it on a desktop, but you don’t have to worry about setting it up yourself because ADT has a professional installer come out to set up all your equipment for you.

ADT’s digital keypad is pretty expandable, and it allows you to connect 250 total devices including 16 cameras, 32 key fobs, 8 touchscreens or alpha keypads, and up to 224 Z-wave devices. You can create custom user codes for this system which can be enabled and disabled at any time.

ADT gives you the option to upgrade their basic panel to include a cellular chip for backup. ADT’s digital keypad works by connecting to your home’s WIFI network, and it also includes a cellular backup just in case your internet goes down. Their digital keypad is powered through an AC power source, and it includes a backup battery. Both of ADT’s panels offer 2-way communication with ADT’s central monitoring station which allows for quick responses to emergencies.

Alder Security Control Panel

Alder Security has a really nice control panel that is easy to use. Alder Security’s control panel is called the Simple Panel. The Simple Panel has a full colored touchscreen that allows you to control your security system and device right from the panel. The Simple Panel is a wireless panel which means it connects all your sensors and transmits their data and your system’s data wirelessly.

The Simple Panel can be wall mounted, or it can placed on a desk top surface which makes it very portable. Alder Security doesn’t offer professional installation so you will need to setup all the equipment yourself, and they include a step by step guide making setup a breeze.

Alder Security doesn’t list much information about their panel on their website, but we can assume that it has 2-way audio feature due to the picture of the panel on their website. It also looks like the Simple Panel uses cellular data to transmit your security information to their monitoring stations. We can also assume that this is a battery-operated panel which means you will need to have an AC power source nearby to keep its battery charged.

Who wins?

Probably one of the most drastic differences between ADT and Alder Security is the selection of basic equipment that they offer. Alder Security only offers very basic security equipment, and they do not even carry some of the basic sensors that most other security companies use. ADT however offers a wide variety of basic sensors, and they offer them in wired and wireless versions. For these reasons we are also choosing ADT as our winner for this category as well.

There is a distinct difference between ADT and Alder Security when it comes to the add-on equipment they offer. ADT has a ton of home automation equipment for you to choose from while Alder Security doesn’t offer home automation equipment. However, we really like the fact that Alder offers Arlo cams due to their high quality and great reviews. Because ADT offers home automation and video surveillance equipment, we are giving them the win for this category.

Their professional monitoring services work the same as well. You will have a professional monitoring station watching over your home 24/7, and they will respond to any events triggered by your system or devices.
