All of the features of your control panel, system, and any connected devices can be controlled right from the Protect America’s 7-inch full colored touchscreen with just the touch of a button including arming and disarming your system. The touchscreen will also display your local time and temperature. A unique feature of Protect America’s control panel is that it has a 5mp front facing camera that can take snapshots of when your system is being armed and disarmed. You can store your pictures on an SD card due to Protect America’s control panel including a Micro SD slot, but it doesn’t include the actual Micro SD card. It has a built-in glass break sensor and motion sensors. Its glass break sensor will listen for the sound of breaking glass while its motion sensors will look for motion around it. If your system or any connected devices are triggered, Protect America’s control panel will sound its internal siren. Protect America’s control panel is very expandable and it includes a Z-wave protocol that lets you use lots of great home automation devices with it. One really cool feature of Protect America’s control panel is its Bluetooth arming and disarming which is a feature that will automatically arm and disarm your system when you leave or return home.

Cove Smart Control Panel

Cove Smart has an easy to use full colored touchscreen control panel which they call the Cove Touch Alarm Panel. It has a very thin design making it easy to place, and it will go great with your style of home no matter how you have your home styled. The Cove Touch Alarm Panel is a cellular security control panel which means you don’t need a landline or internet connection for it to work. All of the features of your system and control panel can be accessed right from the Cove Touch Alarm Panel’s touchscreen such as adding and removing security devices. You can create different user codes for your Cove Touch Alarm for different users that can be enabled and disabled at any time. The full colored touchscreen allows for you to quickly arm and disarm your Cove Smart security system with the touch of button. The Cove Touch Alarm Panel is powered by an AC power source, and it includes a 24-hour backup battery. The Cove Touch Alarm Panel has a self-diagnosing feature that will automatically run checks to make sure everything is working with your Cove Smart system which is a pretty unique feature. The Cove Touch Alarm Panel includes a 2-way audio feature that will allow you to directly communicate with your Cove Smart central monitoring station during an emergency. If your system or connected devices are triggered, The Cove Touch Alarm Panel will sound its built-in 84-decibel internal siren.

Who wins?

As you can see both Protect America and Cove Smart offer full colored touchscreen control panels. Both of their control panels are cellular, have backup batteries, and also connect to your home’s WIFI. Cove Smart however doesn’t really give a lot of information about their Cove Touch Alarm Panel, and it doesn’t seem like it has a lot of bells and whistles. Protect America’s control panel has a ton of features like a glass break sensor which is something the Cove Touch Alarm Panel doesn’t have. Due to Protect America’s Control Panel having more features than that of Cove’s, we are choosing Protect America as our winner for this category.

Protect America Equipment

Protect America offers a huge selection of basic equipment that really allows you to give your home total coverage. They offer wireless and battery-operated intrusion and environmental safety sensors. To protect the interior of your home, Protect America offers different styles of door/window sensors, a motion sensor, and a glass break sensor. Door/window sensors will alert if a door or window to your home has been opened or shut, motion sensor will trigger your system if motion is detected, and glass break sensors will lesson for the sound of break glass. To keep your home safe from environmental dangers, Protect America offers smoke/heat, CO, and water leak sensors. These environmental sensors will make audible alerts if their designed environmental factor is detected while triggering your system. Protect America also offers extra keypads and key remotes for another way to arm and disarm your system as well as control it. They have external sirens, medical alert pendants, and the list goes on. Home Automation

Protect America;s selection of add-on equipment is superb. Protect America offers several different brands of smart locks for you to choose from such as Yale smart locks. The basic functions of the different smart locks are the same in where you can create custom user codes that can be enabled and disabled at any time. You can also unlock any smart lock purchased through Protect America through their app as well as receive push notifications for when your smart locks have been locked and unlocked. If your home has garage doors, Protect America offers the Linear Garage Door Controller. This controller will allow you to remotely shut and open your garage doors, and you will get alerts for when your garage door has been opened or shut. Protect America has several smart home devices to make your home greener. They offer a few types of smart thermostats including the Alarm.com Smart Thermostat, a smart outlet, and light switch control. These devices can be controlled remotely through the Protect America app, and you can set custom timers for when they come on and go off. Smart thermostats, in particular, are really great at cutting down on your homes energy consumption per month which can save you money.

Cameras

Protect America also has a nice selection of video surveillance cameras you can use with their system as well. They offer an indoor, outdoor, and video doorbell camera. These cameras include night vision, 2-way audio, motion sensors, and the ability to record video in HD. Protect America’s video surveillance cameras work by connecting wirelessly to your home’s WIFI network.

Cove Smart Equipment

Cove Smart has a high-quality selection of basic equipment. The sensors offered by Cove Smart are wireless and battery-operated. Cove Smart offers door/window sensors that will protect the doors or windows of your home. They have glass break sensors that will listen for the sound of breaking glass in an area they are placed. If the sound of break glass is heard it will trigger your Cove Smart security system. Cove Smart’s motion sensors will detect motion in an area that they are placed, and they can provide coverage for larger areas of your home. Cove Smart offers key fob remotes that will let your arm and disarm your system with a push of button. To protect your home from environmental dangers, Cove Smart offers smoke, CO2, and flood sensors. Their smoke sensor will look for rises in smoke, their CO2 sensor will detect dangerous levels of CO gas, and their flood sensor will detect water leaks and rises of water. If these environmental factors are detected, these sensors will make an audible alert while triggering your system. All the equipment offered by Cove Smart is DIY, but they do include a step-by-step setup guide for a fast and easy installation.

Home Automation

Cove Smart doesn’t really sell home automation equipment directly through them, and we are unsure what brands or if any brands work with their control panel. You will need to contact them directly to find out if and what home automation devices are compatible with their system (if there is any). The only add-on equipment they offer is their medical button, which acts just like a panic button. It’s waterproof and you can customize its alert sounds, and it has a flashing LED light. If the medical button is pushed emergency services will know that help is immediately needed.

Cameras

Cove Smart offers some really great video cameras that are YI brand which is a well-known brand of security cameras. Cove Smart offers the YI Indoor Camera. This camera is wireless which means it connects to your home’s WIFI to work. It is powered by an AC power source, so make sure you have one nearby. The YI Indoor Camera can capture video in 1080P, and it has a 111-degree wide angle lens. It has advanced motion sensing technology that will trigger the YI Indoor Camera to start to record, and you can use its 2-way audio feature to communicate with whomever is around your YI Indoor Camera. It has night vision technology, and an advanced zoom feature that allows you to really zoom in on your recorded and live video to get the finer details. The YI Indoor Camera has a Micro SD slot that allows you to use a Micro SD card to store your recorded video clips.

Who wins?

Protect America and Cove have similar types of basic equipment. Just like most other major security companies, they offer wireless and battery-operated intrusion and environmental safety sensors. Also, both companies’ equipment is DIY which is another common trend with a lot of major security companies. However, Protect America has a much larger selection of basic equipment than that of Cove Smart, and for this reason we are choosing Protect America as our winner for this category as well.

There is a big difference in this particular category between Protect America and Cove Smart. Cove Smart doesn’t offer any home automation equipment while Protect America has a huge selection of home automation equipment for you to choose from making their system more expandable. We do however like the YI cameras offered by Cove Smart due to their advanced features. Protect America is the winner of this category due to the home automation equipment selection offered by them.

Protect America vs Cove Smart

Protect America and Cove Smart offer self, professional and video monitoring services. Their self-monitoring services are done through their apps which are free to download and work for Apple, Android, and PC devices. Their self-monitoring services allow you to control your system remotely including connected devices. You will receive instant alerts anytime your system or devices have been triggered, and you can also stream live and recorded video through their apps. Protect America’s app however has a ton more features than Cove Smart’s app. You can really dive into home automation customization with Protect America’s app due to it being powered by Alarm.com services. Their self-monitoring services work the exact same, and you will have a professional monitoring station always watching over your home for emergencies. Cove Smart’s month to month monitoring cost are cheaper than that of Protect America’s, but doesn’t include all of the features that Protect America’s monitoring services provide.

Protect America scored a home run today when compared to Cove Smart. Protect America has a nicer touchscreen, more basic equipment, and moe home automation equipment than that of Cove Smart. Not to mention that Protect America’s self-monitoring services offer a lot of great features that Cove Smart’s app doesn’t offer.
