Today we will be comparing home security providers Cove Home Security and Frontpoint, and see how they stack up! We’ll go over equipment, monitoring plans, and more!
There are a lot of great reasons for why you should get a home security system for your home. One of the top reasons why homeowners decide to get home security is because they have just experienced a home break-in. There are many companies out on the market who can keep your home and family safe with their personalized security solutions, and today we will be taking a look at and comparing what Alarm.com and Cove have to offer.
Cove offers a control panel that is packed full of features, and has a great modern-day design. Their control panel is called the Cove Touch Alarm. All your security and other devices connect wirelessly to it. It has a full colored touchscreen that easily lets you arm and disarm your system with a push of a single button. The Cove Touch Alarm is a wireless panel that is powered through an AC power source. It comes with a 24-hour backup battery. It also includes a built-in audible alarm that will be triggered when your Cove security system detects an event. You can have up to 20 customized user codes for the Cove Touch Alarm panel, and they can easily be disabled and enabled at any time. It also includes a 2-way audio feature that allows you to directly communicate with your central monitoring station. Another really cool feature of the Cove Touch Alarm is that is includes Crash and Smash technology. What this means is that the Cove Touch Alarm has a cellular chip that will still transmit a signal to your central monitoring station even when your control panel has been damaged. The Cove Touch Alarm will make sure your system is working properly by using its self-diagnosing software that constantly makes sure your hub and security devices are working properly.

Frontpoint’s control panel is simplistic in design and has a pretty basic layout. It comes with the base station, and a wireless keypad. Frontpoint decided to make a separate keypad for their system to provide it with more security. Having your keypad in a separate location from your base station decreases the chances of it being damaged by an intruder. Frontpoint’s keypad is powered by an AC power source, but does include a rechargeable battery.
The Frontpoint Control panel has Crash and Smash protection which will keep your base station safe. Crash and Smash is a great feature to have built into their base station because if the base station is damaged by an intruder, it will still transmit a signal to your monitoring station.
The Frontpoint control panel has cellular chip built-in which means you don’t have to have a landline or internet connection for it to work. The Frontpoint control panel has a backup connection with it being able to connect to your home’s WIFI network just in case you live in an area that doesn’t get great cell coverage or your internet goes down. The panel comes with a rechargeable 24-hour back up battery in case your power goes out, and it also has a Z-Wave protocol that allows you to use other branded devices with it, making it pretty expandable.

The control panels that are offered by Frontpoint and Cove are pretty different from one another. Frontpoint’s control panel has a separate keypad for you to control its functions while all the functions from the Cove’s control panel can be accessed right from the full-colored touchscreen. However, both Cove’s and Fronpoint’s control panels have Crash and Smash protection built-in. Due to Cove having a more modern control panel with more updated features we are giving them the win for this category.
Cove offers all the sensors you need to give your home total security protection. The first type of security sensors that Cove has to offer are door/window sensors. Their door/window sensors are battery-operated and wireless. They can easily be installed on either your door or window frames due to their adhesive double-sided stick tape backs. The next sensors that are offered by Cove are motion sensors that are also wireless and battery-operated. You generally want to install motion sensors in large rooms that you want coverage for. Cove’s motion sensors are pet immune which means that as long as your furry friend are under 45-pounds they will not trigger these sensors. Their smoke and CO sensors will detect rises in smoke and CO gas, and they will make an audible alert and trigger an event with your system if these rises are detected. Their flood sensors will detect rises in water, and it will also trigger your system when rises or leaks are detected. All the equipment that purchase from Cove is DIY (do it yourself), but Cove does include a step by step guide on how to set up everything quickly and easily.
Cove Home Automation
Cove doesn’t have a huge selection of add-on equipment for you to choose form, and when it comes to home automation, they don’t currently offer any of those types of products on their website. You will need to call them directly to find out about their home automation products. They do offer the Cove Medical Alert System which is a medical alert device that has a portable design that allows it to easily be transported from place to place. The Cove Medical Alert System would be a great addition to your Cove security system especially if you have someone in your home who has medical issues. The Cove Medical Alert System is a wireless push button sensor that is battery-operated. It has an LED indicator light to let you know that a distress call has been made. When the Cove Medical Alert System’s button has been pushed your central monitoring station will be immediately notified.

It has night vision technology that allows you to capture images even when there is no light around. One really cool feature of the YI Indoor Camera is its Baby Cry Detection technology. With YI Indoor Camera’s Baby Cry Detection technology, it will listen for the distinguishing sound of a baby’s cry, and ignore background noise. If this noise is detected by your YI Indoor Camera, it will alert you. It also includes a 2-way audio feature that allow to hear and respond to whomever is around your camera. The YI Indoor Camera is powered through an AC Power source, and it works by connecting to your home’s WIFI network wirelessly. Video clips can be stored on a Micro SD card or viewed through the Cove app.
Frontpoint has a huge selection of addon equipment for you to choose from. They offer door/window sensors that are wireless and battery-operated. Their door/window sensors are smaller than other door/window sensors making them easier to place. Frontpoint’s offers motion sensors that are wireless and battery-operated. Their motion sensors are pet immune, and can detect motion in a large area. Frontpoint offers wireless and battery-operated glass break sensors. Their glass break sensors work by recognizing the sound of breaking glass, and they will alert you when this event has happened. Frontpoint’s panic buttons will allow you to instantly trigger your system, and you will get a response for your central monitoring station. Their panic buttons can be carried around with you so that you can always be prepared for an emergency.
Frontpoint also offers wireless and battery-operated temperature sensors. These sensors will detect changes in temperature and will alert you to abnormal rises and drops in temperature. They also offer smoke sensors that are wireless and battery-operated. Their smoke sensor will detect rises in smoke and will make an audible alert when this is detected. Frontpoint’s offers CO detectors that will alert you to potentially dangerous levels of CO gas in your home via an audible alert.

Frontpoint’s smart thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature of your home when a drop or rise of temperature happens past the temperature you have set for your home.
Frontpoint Video Monitoring/Cameras
Frontpoint has a great selection of video surveillance equipment that you can use with their system. Frontpoint offers the Alarm.com V622 Indoor Camera. This camera is wireless, and it is powered by an AC power source. The video resolution of this camera is 1080p HD with a 180-degree viewing angle which allows this camera to capture video in a wide area. The V622 indoor camera also has 2-way audio built-in with Bluetooth audio streaming capabilities. You can also use other Alarm.com cameras with your Frontpoint system such as their outdoor and doorbell cameras.
Frontpoint and Cove offer a lot of the same type of basic security equipment. They offer wireless and battery-operated security and environmental sensors. We like that Frontpoint offers a temperature sensor which is really hand if you live in an area where rises in humidity levels could damage your home. We really like that Cove offers flood sensors due to their ability to help prevent thousands of dollars in flood damage. There isn’t a clear winner for this category so we are calling it a tie. There is a drastic difference in what Frontpoint offers with add-on equipment and what Cove has to offer. Unfortunately, Cove doesn’t offer any home automation equipment, but we really love the YI Indoor Camera that they offer due to all of its advanced features that a lot of other cameras out on the market don’t have. Frontpoint however has a ton of home automation equipment for you to choose from, and they offer some really nice Alarm.com cameras. Because Frontpoint offers so much more add-on equipment than Cove, we are giving them the win for this category.
Both companies offer professional, self, and video monitoring services. For self-monitoring, the apps are free to download and work for Apple and Android devices. Their apps will allow you to remotely control your system and all connected equipment while you’re on the go. You will also receive push-notifications whenever your system is triggered. You can also view and stream video through their apps. Professional monitoring services work the same. You will have a professional monitoring station watching over your home 24/7.
