A unique feature of Protect America’s control panel is that it has a 5 MP front facing camera that can take snap shops which are triggered by someone arming and disarming your system. These images can be stored on a Micro SD card due to Protect America’s control panel including a Micro SD card slot. It has Bluetooth arming and disarming which is a built-in feature that will arm your system automatically when you control panel detects you have left home, and disarm it automatically when your control panel detects that you have returned home. Protect America’s control panel is super expandable due to it including a Z-Wave protocol that allows you to use a lot of great home automation devices with it and your Protect America security system. If your Protect America system is triggered, its control panel will sound its internal siren.

Ring Alarm Control Panel

Ring is a name we are sure you have heard before. Ring is a popular maker of video surveillance equipment, and over the years they have released a variety of other smart home, cam, and now security products. Ring offers their Ring security system with a pretty easy to use control panel. Ring’s control panel work’s by connecting to your home’s WIFI network, but it does include a cellular chip as an optional way for you to connect your Ring control panel. Ring now offers their second-generation control panel which is small, compact, and has a square shaped design. Their control panel includes an LED indicator light that will change colors to show different system statutes. The Ring control panel is controlled through a separate push-button keypad or through the Ring app. The Ring control panel includes a 24-hour backup up battery, and so does the keypad. It has a built in Z-Wave protocol which means you can expand it to include other branded home automation devices such as smart locks. The Ring control panel has different chime alerts for different security devices that will alert you when these devices have been triggered. If your Ring security system or devices detect an event, the Ring control panel will sound its built-in internal siren.

Who wins?

Protect America and Ring both offer easy to use control panels. They both have cellular chips, and can connect to your home’s WIFI network. They include backup batteries, and work by being plugged directly into an AC power source. However, Protect America’s control panel is more modern, and its touchscreen makes it very easy to use. It also has more built-features than Ring’s control panel, and for these reasons we are choosing Protect America as our winners for this category.

Protect America has an above average selection of addon equipment you can choose from. Protect America offers several different brands of smart locks that are all well-known names and well made. You can create custom user codes that can be enabled and disabled at any time with their smart locks which can unlock and lock on the go. You will receive push notifications for when your smart locks have been locked and unlocked. If your home has garage doors, Protect America offers the Linear Garage Door Controller. This controller will allow you to remotely shut and open your garage doors. You will get alerts for when your garage door has been opened or shut as well through the Protect America app. Protect America has several eco friend devices that are great at cutting down on your carbon footprint. They offer a few types of smart thermostats, a smart outlet, and light switch control. These devices can be controlled remotely through the Protect America app, and you can set custom timers for when they come on and go off. Their smart thermostats are excellent echo friend smart home devices that will cut down on your home’s energy consumption per month.

Video Monitoring/Cameras

Protect America also has a nice selection of video surveillance cameras you can use with their system as well. They offer an indoor, outdoor, and video doorbell camera. These cameras include night vision, 2-way audio, motion sensors, and the ability to record video in HD. Ring offers high-quality and well-made intrusion and environmental safety sensors. To keep the doors and windows of your home protected, Ring offers wireless and battery-operated door/window sensors. Ring also offers wireless and battery-operated motion sensors that are great at detecting motion in large areas in your home. Ring offers secondary keypads you can add to your Ring security system. Their keypads have an illuminated push-button keypad and include a rechargeable battery. Ring also offers a battery-operated panic button that will trigger your system, and alert emergency services when it has been pushed. They also offer a battery-operated external siren that will trigger when your Ring security system triggers. Ring offers a wireless and battery-operated smoke/CO sensor and a freeze/flood sensor to keep your home safe from the elements. These locks have a push-button keypad, can be remotely controlled, and you can create custom user codes that can be enabled and disabled at any time. These particular types of devices are great at cutting down your home’s energy, and can be controlled on the go.

When it comes to video surveillance equipment, Ring has two video cams for you to choose from. They offer indoor, outdoor, video doorbell, and flood light cameras. Their video surveillance cameras are powered by an AC power source, or a rechargeable battery. Their cameras work by connecting directly to your home’s WIFI network. You will need to check which camera you are interested in specific specifications but generally most Ring cameras include 2-way audio, night vision, custom motion zones, motion sensors, and the ability to capture video in either 720P or 1080P.

Who wins?

Protect America and Ring offer a lot of the same similar types of basic equipment. Their intrusion and environmental safety sensors are wireless and battery-operated. Their basic equipment also has similar designs to one another. Protect America does have a slightly larger selection of basic equipment than that of Ring. Due to this reason we are choosing them as our winner for this category.

Protect America and Ring are pretty evenly matched when it comes to their selection of add-on equipment. Both Protect America and Ring offer major brands of smart locks such as Schlage. They also have a really nice selection of video cameras. Ring would win for video cameras due to their larger selection of video cameras than that of Protect America. However, Protect America has a nicer selection of home automation than what Ring offers. Due to these reasons we are declaring this category a tie between Protect America and Ring.

Protect America and Ring offer professional, self, and video monitoring services that you can use with your connected devices to watch over your security system. Protect America’s and Ring’s self-monitoring services are done through their apps which you can download for free to your smartphone. Their self-monitoring service gives you the power to control your system and connected devices while on the go. You will be able to arm and disarm your system, check device status, add/remove devices, and stream live and recorded video through their apps. You will also receive push notification for any events that are triggered by your security system, home automation, environmental safety, or video surveillance equipment. However, Ring’s self-monitoring app is free to use while Protect America’s has a month to month fee for this service. Though Protect America uses Alarm.com services which means you will have a ton of more features to use with your self-monitoring services through their app than that of Ring’s. Their professional monitoring services work the same in where you have a 24/7 professional monitoring services watching over our home for emergencies.

Ring’s month to month professional monitoring fees are cheaper than that of Protect America’s, but you will need to pay for all your equipment upfront. Protect America offers contracts which means you get a huge discount on your equipment, though their month to month rates are higher. Protect America and Ring offer really great and affordable security solutions. We really love Ring’s selection of video cameras, and their control panel is easy to use. Ring’s month to month monitoring services are also much cheaper than the average month to month cost compared to other security companies. However, Protect America offers a more premium control panel, nicer add-on equipment, and contracts which cuts down on upfront costs.
