Frontpoint vs Cove Home Security: An Expert Comparison

Today we will be comparing home security providers Frontpoint and Cove, and see how they stack up! We’ll go over equipment, monitoring plans, and more!

There are a lot of great reasons for why you should get a home security system for your home. One of the top reasons why homeowners decide to get home security is because they have just experienced a home break-in. These types of crimes can cause a lot of psychological and financial harm to homeowners and their families (no one should have to experience this type of trauma in their lives). There are many companies out on the market who can keep your home and family safe with their personalized security solutions, and today we will be taking a look at and comparing what Frontpoint and Cove have to offer.

Frontpoint Control Panel

Frontpoint’s control panel is simplistic in design and has a pretty basic layout. It comes with the base station, and a wireless keypad. Frontpoint decided to make a separate keypad for their system to provide it with more security. Having your keypad in a separate location from your base station decreases the chances of it being damaged by an intruder. Frontpoint’s keypad is powered by an AC power source, but does include a rechargeable battery.

The Frontpoint Control panel has Crash and Smash protection which will keep your base station safe. Crash and Smash is a great feature to have built into their base station because if the base station is damaged by an intruder, it will still transmit a signal to your monitoring station.

The Frontpoint control panel has cellular chip built-in which means you don’t have to have a landline or internet connection for it to work. The Frontpoint control panel has a backup connection with it being able to connect to your home’s WIFI network just in case you live in an area that doesn’t get great cell coverage or your internet goes down. The panel comes with a rechargeable 24-hour back up battery in case your power goes out, and it also has a Z-Wave protocol that allows you to use other branded devices with it, making it pretty expandable.

The Cove Touch Alarm is a wireless panel that is powered through an AC power source. It comes with a 24-hour backup battery. It also includes a 2-way audio feature that allows you to directly communicate with your central monitoring station. Another really cool feature of the Cove Touch Alarm is that is includes Crash and Smash technology. What this means is that the Cove Touch Alarm has a cellular chip that will still transmit a signal to your central monitoring station even when your control panel has been damaged. The Cove Touch Alarm will make sure your system is working properly by using its self-diagnosing software that constantly makes sure your hub and security devices are working properly.

Who wins?

The control panels that are offered by Frontpoint and Cove are pretty different from one another. Frontpoint’s control panel has a separate keypad for you to control its functions while all the functions from the Cove’s control panel can be accessed right from the full-colored touchscreen. However, both Cove’s and Fronpoint’s control panels have Crash and Smash protection built-in. Due to Cove having a more modern control panel with more updated features we are giving them the win for this category.

Cove offers all the sensors you need to give your home total security protection. The first type of security sensors that Cove has to offer are door/window sensors. Their door/window sensors are battery-operated and wireless. They can easily be installed on either your door or window frames due to their adhesive double-sided stick tape backs. The next sensors that are offered by Cove are motion sensors that are also wireless and battery-operated. You generally want to install motion sensors in large rooms that you want coverage for. Cove Home Automation

Cove doesn’t have a huge selection of add-on equipment for you to choose form, and when it comes to home automation, they don’t currently offer any of those types of products on their website. You will need to call them directly to find out about their home automation products. They do offer the Cove Medical Alert System which is a medical alert device that has a portable design that allows it to easily be transported from place to place. The Cove Medical Alert System would be a great addition to your Cove security system especially if you have someone in your home who has medical issues. The Cove Medical Alert System is a wireless push button sensor that is battery-operated. It has an LED indicator light to let you know that a distress call has been made. When the Cove Medical Alert System’s button has been pushed your central monitoring station will be immediately notified.

Cove Video Monitoring/Cameras

When it comes to video surveillance equipment Cove Smart is a bit limited. Cove Smart does not offer their own branded video surveillance camera, but they do offer the YI Indoor Camera. The YI Indoor Camera is packed full of features. It has a video resolution of 1080p HD with a 107-degree wide viewing angle. It has night vision technology that allows you to capture images even when there is no light around. Who wins?

Frontpoint and Cove offer a lot of the same type of basic security equipment. They offer wireless and battery-operated security and environmental sensors. We like that Frontpoint offers a temperature sensor which is really hand if you live in an area where rises in humidity levels could damage your home. We really like that Cove offers flood sensors due to their ability to help prevent thousands of dollars in flood damage. There isn’t a clear winner for this category so we are calling it a tie.

There is a drastic difference in what Frontpoint offers with add-on equipment and what Cove has to offer. Unfortunately, Cove doesn’t offer any home automation equipment, but we really love the YI Indoor Camera that they offer due to all of its advanced features that a lot of other cameras out on the market don’t have. Frontpoint however has a ton of home automation equipment for you to choose from, and they offer some really nice Alarm.com cameras. Because Frontpoint offers so much more add-on equipment than Cove, we are giving them the win for this category.

Frontpoint vs Cove App

Frontpoint and Cove offer professional, self, and video monitoring services. Their self-monitoring service are done through their apps. Their apps are free to download and work for Windows, Apple, and Android devices. There are some similar features between their apps. Their apps allow you to remotely arm and disarm your system, view live and recorded video, and receive push notifications for events. Frontpoint’s app however does include more in-depth features, and lets you do more with home automation equipment along with a lot more customization features that you can use with your other devices connected to your Frontpoint system. Their professional monitoring services work the same where you have a professional monitoring station watching over your home 24/7. Their prices per month for their monitoring are about the same as well. They also both offer contract and not contract options for their services.
