Frontpoint vs Brinks Home Security: An Expert Comparison

Today we will be comparing Frontpoint with Brinks Home Security, both of which are DIY Alarm.com providers and see how they stack up. Let’s dive right in!

There are thousands of people who are shopping around for a home security system every day. Purchasing a home security system is great way to protect your home from home invaders. There a lot of great companies that are out on the market currently that can offer you a security solution that fits your specific needs. And today we will be taking at look at and comparing what Frontpoint and Brinks have to offer.

Frontpoint Control Panel

Frontpoint has a really easy to use control panel that connects all of your devices to one place. The control panel that Frontpoint uses is made of two parts; the Hub and a keypad.

Frontpoint designed their system to be separated from the keypad allowing it to be placed in a separate location. This allows the system to be more secure from damage. Any damage that is done to the separate keypad will not affect the Hub. The Frontpoint Hub offers a smash-proof design. This means that even if the hub is damaged by an intruder, the hub will still transmit a signal to their monitoring station which will notify the station that the alarm has been triggered.

The Frontpoint Hub has a dedicated 4G next generation cellular module which means no wires can be cut to disable the system. If you live in an area that does not get good cellular service no problem, the Frontpoint Hub has an internet back to make sure you are always protected. The Frontpoint Hub comes with a rechargeable 24-hour back up battery.

The keypad itself is wireless and battery-operated which means that it can be placed anywhere around your home. You can choose to add multiple keypads to your system allowing you to be able to disarm your system for any location in your home. The Frontpoint Hub has a Z-Wave protocol that allows you to use other branded devices with it, making it pretty expandable.

Brinks Control Panel

Brinks actually offers several different control panels, but today we will only be going over their most superior control panel called the Brinks Home Touch, which is the Qolsys IQ 2 Panel (the same one we offer at Link Interactive at a much better price).

The Brinks Home Touch Control panel/Qolsys IQ Panel 2 is packed full of features. It is a completely wireless touchscreen control panel that comes with a 7-inch full color LCD capacitive glass multi-touch screen which sports a 1280 x800 resolution. This control panel has built-in 5MP fixed focus front facing camera that allows users to capture still images. It also has a slot for an SD card allowing users to store these images on an SD card.

The Brinks Home Touch panel has a built in 85 decibel internal siren with a built-in backup battery for times the power goes out. It is powered by an AC power source, and it works by connecting to your home’s WIFI network. It has the ability to have a cellular chip installed that has LTE coverage which means you’ll always be protected even when the internet is down.

The Brinks Home Touch panel/Qolsys panel allows users to have 242 user codes. It also includes Smart Z-Wave technology that allows you to connect up to 119 smart home devices. The panel includes Smash and Crash protection as well so even if your panel gets damaged during a break-in it will still transmit a single.

Who wins?

Frontpoint and Brinks may offer different control panels, but what they do have in common is that are both easy to use. We like that the Frontpoint Hub has a simple design and it is easy to use but we also feels it’s over simplistic. The Brink Home Touch panel has so many features that it can practically do anything that a home security or home automation system can do. We like the fact that the Brinks Home Touch Panel has a full colored touchscreen along with a front facing camera.

The winner for this category is Brinks because just like us at Link, they offer the Qolsys IQ 2 control panel. And we believe the major difference between the two companies comes down to that.

Who wins?

Frontpoint and Brinks have everything you need to keep your home totally protected. We like the fact that Frontpoint has an easy to push panic button because you may have an elderly loved on who has trouble using push-button devices. Brinks has so many different types of basic sensors they really let you customize your security. Because Brinks has a bit wider variety of basic equipment than Frontpoint, we are giving them the win for this category.

Frontpoint and Brinks offer a lot of add-on equipment that lets you personalize your security solution. We like the automated locks offered by Frontpoint especially their fingerprint resistant design. Brinks has a lot of video surveillance equipment, and we really love their Skybell Slim Line Video Doorbell due to its slick design and features (it’s the same one we offer here at Link). Brinks offers better brands of add-on equipment, and they offer a bit more video surveillance equipment that you can buy directly from them instead of having to go through another source so we are giving them the win for this category.

Frontpoint vs Brinks App

Frontpoint and Brinks offer professional, video, and self-monitoring services. Both of their self-monitoring services are done through their apps which work for Apple and Android devices. Their apps are both actually powered by Alarm.com services which is pretty awesome. Their apps allow you to fully customize your system and all devices connected to it while on the go. You will also receive push-notifications any time your devices or system triggers an event. Because they use Alarm.com services you can use Alarm.com’s Geo-fencing technology. This technology sets an invisible fence around your home, and when you cross the fence you can have your devices that connected to your system do different things like turning on and off smart lights.

Their professional monitoring services work the same where you have a professional monitoring station watching over your home 24/7. Their video monitoring services also work the same where you can view recorded video clips and stream live video through their apps.

Frontpoint and Brinks offer great security, home automation, and video surveillance equipment that really let you personalize your security solution. Frontpoint offers a simplistic control panel that is easy to use and setup, although we think it should have had more features. Brinks offers a lot of different options when it comes to control panels with their Brinks Home Touch panel being their most superior panel which has tons of features that other control panels don’t have like a front facing camera. Because Brinks has a wider selection than Frontpoint when it comes to security products, and the fact that the products that they offer are more superior than that of Frontpoint’s we are choosing them as our overall winner.

But, if you’re interested in purchasing a system that offers the best of both worlds and a lot more in the way of smart home automation and app control at a lower price, give our Link Interactive security system a look.
