We are dedicated in making that process easier for our readers by providing all of this much information and most importantly, solutions.

The first control we will be taking a look at is the one that is offered by ADT. The control panel that ADT uses is pretty basic but they do offer a digital keypad upgrade. The control panel and digital keypad allow you to arm and disarm their system, and it has the capability of hands-free two-way communication with ADT emergency dispatchers.

The digital keypad can be wall mounted or placed on a desktop. It is powered by being directly plugged into an AC power source. This control panel also includes a 24-hour back up battery just in case the power goes out. The keypad has built in Z-Wave technology which allows you to expand the system to include smart home automation devices.

You can connect over 250 devices to the panel with the ability to make up to 99 users codes. The system also includes a built-in high decibel internal siren that can be easily heard no matter where you are in your home, and will alert you to not only security alerts but also for smoke and CO2 events. Who wins?

Both ADT and Vivint offer really nice control panels that allow you to connect and control your home security and Z-Wave equipment. ADT’s base control panel is very simplistic, easy to use, and doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles. Their digital keypad however has a great touchscreen, and has way more features.

Vivint on the other hand offers all of the bells and whistles in their hub. It has a lot of zones which allows you to really expand its functionality. We also like the fact that this is Vivint’s base panel, and you don’t have to upgrade to get all of these features like ADT.

Vivint is our winner when it comes to their hub due to its outstanding features that are all-included in the control panel.

ADT Equipment

ADT has a great selection of basic equipment that it easy to use and is built to last. ADT has door/window sensors that come in wired or wireless form. Their door/window sensors are battery operated (unless you use the wired versions), and they are UL so you know you will get a high-quality sensor. The glass break sensors are battery operated and they last a good few years before they need to be replaced.

ADT also offers wired and wireless smoke and CO2 (carbon monoxide) detectors that make audible alerts any time these kinds of threats are detected. ADT allows you to use Google Home to control your ADT equipment with voice commands as well. Who wins?

Both ADT and Vivint offer the same types of basic equipment. ADT however does offer wired versions for their life safety and entryway sensors. Vivint on the other hand only offers wireless versions of these types of sensors. They both allow you to also use some sort of smart home assistant to control your equipment. We do however like the Vivint’s sensors better than ADT because they have a more modern look. Though overall seeing that ADT has wired and wireless versions of their sensors we believe they take the win when it comes to basic equipment.

Vivint and ADT offer some really great add-on equipment that really lets you personalize your system. ADT offers a lot of other branded equipment that is well known in the security business, and so does Vivint. Vivint’s security cameras however have a much nicer design than those offered by ADT. ADT however does offer a bit more when it comes to add-on equipment than Vivint. ADT pulls ahead of Vivint when it comes to add-on equipment.

ADT vs Vivint: Monitoring

ADT’s and Vivint’s monitoring services are pretty similar. They both offer 24/7 professional monitoring through a professional monitoring station. They offer self-monitoring through their apps. They also both offer video monitoring services that allow you to capture and stream live video. Their apps however differ some.

ADT’s and Vivint’s apps are both free to download and work for both Apple and Android devices. ADT’s app is known as the ADT Pulse app. The ADT pulse app allows you to remotely monitor your security system and equipment while you are on the go. You will receive push notifications whenever your security system is triggered right through the app. You can also stream live video, control home automation devices, and arm and disarm your system through the app. Vivint’s App has the same features, but allows for a little more customization when it comes to the devices that are connected to it. Both the ADT and Vivint App are extremely user friendly.
